22) When do lunar eclipses?

Lunar eclipses do not occur every month, even though the Moon passes "behind" the Earth every cycle. This is because the Moon's orbit is tilted about 5° relative to the Earth's orbit. For an eclipse to occur, the Moon must be full and align exactly with the Earth and the Sun, requiring the Sun, Earth, and Moon to be perfectly aligned, which is why they occur very rarely throughout the year. The approximate frequency is between 2 and 5 lunar eclipses (penumbral, partial, and total). Total lunar eclipses are less frequent and usually occur every 2–3 years.
