Screening of the documentary film Des-extinction and discussion
How much do you know about evolution? What if dinosaurs had not become extinct? Can we recreate extinct species?
The Science Museum of the University of Navarra presents the series "Science and Evolution", with the aim of addressing these and other questions from the point of view of current science.
On Thursday, November 9, the documentary "De-extinction" will be screened, followed by a discussion.
Presents:
David Galicia. Professor of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Navarra.
Summary:
In 1993 'Jurassic Park' left half the world speechless. De-extinction entered our lives through cinema. Today, in the 21st century, advances confirm that de-extinction is possible and work has begun to carry it out with mammoths and other species of which we find well-preserved remains. Based on this irresistible bait, the documentary travels through the main scenarios where this scientific challenge takes place, explaining to the general public the different processes of de-extinction that science offers us today. Taking advantage of the occasion, we will delve into one of the positive aspects of de-extinction and see how the reintroduction of extinct species, such as the bison, brings unquestionable economic and environmental benefits.
