The University inaugurates an exhibition on Piedad de la Cierva, pioneer in Spanish scientific research
The exhibition will invite you to explore the legacy of a woman who broke barriers in Spanish science, a pioneer in the study of artificial radiation and the industrialization of optical glass.

The University of Navarra will inaugurate next Tuesday, November 19, the exhibition "Piedad de la Cierva: pioneer, visionary and scientist", a tribute to the life and work of the outstanding Spanish scientist.
The exhibition, which will remain open at the Central Library until March 14, 2025, will offer an overview of her career and contributions in fields such as X-rays, optical glass and refractory bricks, highlighting her role as a pioneer in scientific research at a time when women were barely present in academia.
The exhibition, organized by the Josemaría Escrivá Study Center, in collaboration with the Science Museum, the University Museum and the Women for Science and Technology group of the University of Navarra, will recreate the research environment in which De la Cierva worked, using materials and objects from the mid-20th century.
The exhibition will invite visitors to explore the legacy of a woman who broke barriers in Spanish science: from her first steps in X-ray studies with Spanish scientist Julio Palacios and her studies in Copenhagen under the direction of Nobel laureate Niels Bohr, to her achievements in optical glass and refractory brick research for the Spanish Navy.

The inauguration will take place on Tuesday the 19th at 12 noon. in the lobby of the Central Library of the University of Navarra, with a round table discussion entitled "Women who inspire", with the participation of Inmaculada Alva, researcher at the Center for Josemaría Escrivá Studies (CEJE) of the academic center; Sergio Barbero, of the CSIC; Gurutze Pérez, director of the Chair of Women, Science and Technology of the Public University of Navarra; and Ana Rouzaut, professor of Biochemistry, Biochemistry and Technology of the Public University of Navarra; Gurutze Pérez, director of the Women, Science and Technology Chair at the Public University of Navarra; and Ana Rouzaut, professor of Biochemistry and Genetics at the University of Navarra, who will discuss the impact of women in science and the legacy of figures such as Piedad de la Cierva.
The exhibition, which after its visit to Pamplona will travel to Madrid, will also include a program of school visits to encourage interest in scientific vocations in girls and adolescents. Details and educational resources will be available on the website: unav.edu/pdelacierva....
