Ginkgo(Ginkgo biloba)
The ginkgo is a living fossil and is considered the oldest living species on earth, having been around for more than 200 million years. Ginkgo normally grows spontaneously in China, Japan and Korea, while in Europe it is cultivated in plantations. In Japan, the tree is considered a symbol of human incomprehension. It is recorded that a year after the Hiroshima bomb blast, in the spring of 1946, about a kilometer away from the epicenter of the explosion, an old, destroyed and dried Ginkgo tree began to sprout. The Ginkgo found at the university is cultivated and is one of the great treasures of the campus, painting the ground golden in autumn when its yellow leaves fall.

Holm oak(Quercus ilex)
The holm oak or holm oak is a medium-sized evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region. It occupies a large part of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, being one of our most common tree species. It forms from dense forests, accompanied by thick scrub and numerous climbers, to large pastures long used by man. It grows on a wide range of substrates. Holm oaks are cultivated mainly for their fruits, the well-known acorns, and for their charcoal wood. The cultivation of this tree is also evolving for the use of the famous truffles from the symbiotic relationship of the tree with fungi such as those of the genus Tuber, which are highly appreciated in gastronomy.

Beech(Fagus sylvatica)
The beech tree inhabits central and western Europe, in regions with a mild and humid climate. From its trunks the wood was collected to prepare charcoal in the charcoal kilns that are part of the traditional landscape of southern Europe. In Navarra and specifically, in the Irati forest is one of the largest beech-fir forests in Europe. It can be subshrubby in rupicolous stations or in summits, with scarce soil; or also slender with narrow crown of ascending branches, in the dense masses, and rounded, very open, with thick branches, often horizontal, when the feet are isolated. The foliage is always very dense. It has a wide ecological valence, capable of adapting to relatively varied edaphic and climatic conditions.

White poplar(Populus alba)
The white poplar is widely distributed in Europe, Asia and North Africa. Like the black poplar it lives in deep, moist soils, especially along riverbanks where it forms riparian forests. Apart from the value of its wood for paper pulp, this species due to its extensive root system fixes the soil protecting the banks and margins of rivers and streams. It is a tree that prefers low areas and does not climb as much as its congeners in altitude, because it does not tolerate much frost, so it generally occupies the most fertile areas of the meadows in the middle and lower courses of rivers. It lives associated with the fluvial systems, fountains and springs, forming copses that are sometimes mixed with other riverside species. It tolerates clay soils and occurs well in calcareous soils, but disappears where they are saline. It differs from its congener the black poplar (Populus nigra) by the underside of its leaves characterized by a whitish color.

White clover(Trifolium repens)
Native to Europe. It is currently the most cultivated perennial grass legume on the planet. It is present throughout the Iberian Peninsula. It adapts to a diversity of climates, soils and altitudes. Its optimum growth is in temperate-humid climates with little summer drought. It does not tolerate shading. To be productive it requires moisture and good levels of phosphorus and potassium in the soil. This species is favored by intense grazing, being, in these cases, very persistent in pastures. Forage of great interest for livestock due to its high digestibility. Used together with other species, mainly grasses, to make artificial pastures. It is also used for revegetation works or recovery of areas altered by earthworks.

Daisy(Bellis perennis)
It is a herbaceous plant widely used for decorative purposes mixed with grass for its colors and resistance to mowing. It is native to Europe, North Africa and Central Asia, although it is very easy to find in the rest of the world due to its decorative use and its cosmopolitan character. Dandelion(Taraxacum officinale)
It lives in nitrified mowing meadows or those that were previously used as arable land; ditches and edges of roads and crops, up to 2000 m above sea level. It can be included in plant communities of Euro-Siberian or Mediterranean distribution of high cover in which other species dominate deep soils with variable moisture and nutrients derived from mowing or grazing management. It is a plant widely used in natural medicine. It is used internally in the treatment of urinary diseases due to its diuretic properties. It has antibacterial action and the latex contained in both the root and stalk is used to remove warts and blisters and is believed to remove liver stones. Although its most incredible property may be that of granting wishes when blowing its seeds adorned by white filaments called vilano that allow the seeds to travel great distances.

Dead nettle(Lamium purpureum)
It is an annual plant characterized by its leaves grouped in pairs facing each other and in the opposite direction to the previous ones. Although they are green, they have purple tones that accompany their purple flowers. They can be found in wet grasslands with a higher concentration of nitrogen. In addition, it is very easy to see it in cultivated fields, roadsides and places altered by man, as long as they are humid places. It is found in the Eurosiberian zone, in Spain in the northern third, making it possible to find it almost everywhere in Navarre except in the highest mountains.

Medium plantain(Plantago media)
Perennial herb with all leaves forming a rosette directly on the ground with fine hairs that make it somewhat soft to the touch. The flowers are grouped in a conical inflorescence that comes out with a single stem from the leaves. It appears in Eurasia being naturalized in North America and Australia. In the Iberian Peninsula it is found in the north and in mountain ranges such as Sierra Nevada. It usually grows in pastures and wet mountain meadows, but it is common to find this species or others of the genus Plantago in gardens and areas near rivers such as on campus.

Nazareno(Muscari neglectum)
It is a bulbous plant with basal and linear leaves. The flowers are placed as a dense cluster on the flower stalk. They have a dark blue-purple color, with petals joined together, giving it a globe shape. It is found mainly in the Iberian Peninsula, spread throughout the territory, as well as in Navarra. It is usually found in places altered by man such as fields and roadsides. At the university it can be found near the banks of the river Sadar.

Lady orchid(Orchis purpurea)
Orchids get their name from the Greek "orchis", meaning testicle, from the appearance of the subway tubers in some terrestrial species. The word purpurea refers to the purple coloration of the flower. They are terrestrial in habit and have tubercles. The central lobe of the flower is noticeably larger and wider than the two lobes on either side that are slightly arched outward and upward. It also has two very small petals that are not visible and are inside the flower. It blooms in spring, in forest clearings of oaks, pines and black pines, among the grass, in areas more or less clear, sunny and maintain some humidity, usually below 1400 m altitude. It grows in meadows and acidic soils, in direct sunlight or partial shade. It has important medicinal uses as it is very nutritious and demulcent. It is one of the relatively frequent orchid species in Pamplona.

Spider Orchids(Ophrys sphegodes)
Orchid that is easily recognized because the labellum of the flowers is hairy and dark, and has in the center white lines in the shape of an H. It flowers from March to June. This orchid lives in grasslands, scrub clearings and forests, in both basic and acid substrates, although it shows a clear preference for the former; it occurs from sea level to 1500 m altitude. It is found in the Mediterranean region and is scattered throughout most of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Like the lady orchid, its nutritional use is nutritious and demulcent.
