Nora Escribano Compains- PhD in Biology from the University of Navarra- has won the first prize for the best scientific poster at the first edition of the congress Biodiversity_Nextheld in Leiden (The Netherlands) from October 20 to 25.

Escribano's project, entitled "Game of Tops: Trends in GBIF's Community of Users," analyzes research using biodiversity data provided by the Global Biodiversity Information Infrastructure (GBIF), whose main objective is to make biodiversity data freely available.

"In this research we have analyzed a database that collects all the information on research that has been carried out using data available through GBIF. These documents can range from scientific articles, technical reports, communications to congresses and books," says Nora Escribano, a former student of the University of Navarra.

Dr. Escribano's objective in this work has been to learn about the evolution of biodiversity research and to try to predict where this science is heading. The data analysis has allowed her to know, for example, the authorship of the research, which organizations they belong to, in which journals they decide to publish the papers, what are the publication preferences over time, or what is the scientific production of each country, among other issues. "The metadata of scientific articles give you a lot of information about the behavior and choices of researchers over time," adds Escribano.

Biodiversity_Next is an international conference that brings together scientists and international organizations to discuss biodiversity and data-intensive geodiversity. Nora Escribano obtains this award in this world congress in which 66 posters have been presented and whose deliberation was made by popular vote among the attendees to the event.
