The Science Museum of the University of Navarra celebrates this Friday "La noche de los investigadores", a webinar with the participation of two Spanish scientists from Mount Sinai in New York.

The Science Museum of the University of Navarra has organized this Friday at 19:00 hours "The night of the researchers", a webinar that will feature the testimony of Ana Fernández-Sesma and Adolfo García-Sastre, two Spanish researchers working at Mount Sinai in New York, who will tell their professional career and comment on the most relevant topics of scientific update.

The objective of this session is to strengthen scientific vocations through the testimony of two professionals who have developed a successful scientific career. In addition, attendees to the webinar will learn the vision of these professionals about the future of Science, the current state of research, the possibilities of developing a scientific career in Spain, the trend in the world of Virology, as well as other current scientific issues, with special emphasis on the COVID-19 pandemic and other emerging diseases.

"Researchers' Night" will be held online this year and the public will be able to follow the session and participate through the Science Museum's YouTube channel. Scientists will answer questions asked through the chat on this platform.

A scientific career focused on Virology

Ana Fernández-Sesma was born in Cáceres and studied at the University of Salamanca. She is Professor of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where she leads a research group studying how viruses modulate our immune system and how to develop new therapies against viral diseases such as dengue, Zika, HIV, influenza and SARSCoV2. For the past few years she has been in the top 5 of microbiology researchers funded by the NIH (National Institutes of Health).

Adolfo García-Sastre, a native of Burgos, received his PhD in Science from the University of Salamanca and is Professor of Medicine and Microbiology at the Emerging Pathogens and Global Health Institute of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He is also Director of the Center for Research on the Pathogenesis of Influenza (CRIP) for Influenza Research and Surveillance in the U.S. His research has focused on improving influenza virus vaccines and investigating the interactions between these agents and their hosts.
