Next Saturday, September 28, begins the VII Edition of the Diploma in Management and Business Creation in Science, an initiative of the Faculty of Science in collaboration with the European Business and Innovation Center of Navarra (CEIN), which aims to train young scientists in the business area.

"The objective of the program is that students from the School of Science can develop the professional skills most in demand in organizations, acquire basic knowledge of business management, discover the biotech industry as an attractive career opportunity and can launch their own business idea," says Cristina Martínez Cabañas, head of CareerServices at the School of Science of the University of Navarra.

The course is focused on enabling participants to develop their own professional competencies in business management, from knowing how to create a marketing and sales plan in a company; to interpret a balance sheet and income statement; and to discover the global vision of a company's departments.

"Students will learn to detect problems in organizations and propose alternatives to achieve the best solution for the business. They will discover the company as a whole, valuing all departments with a global vision," adds Martínez Cabañas.

The methodology of the course is eminently practical and active professionals from Science companies as well as from the European Business and Innovation Center of Navarra (CEIN) participate in the training with sessions and tutoring of work.

This training diploma - 65 hours long - will take place on the mornings of several Saturdays throughout the academic year and is offered to students of the bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in the area of Science. "The Diploma allows science students to train in the skills most in demand by companies and to contribute to innovation. It opens up the students' field of vision: beyond the scientist in a lab coat, laboratory or field, there is a professional future linked to the company," says Inmaculada Pascual, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science.

Gorria group wins 2019 edition with a project on wine quality

Last year the winning project was developed by the Gorria group formed by students María Pérez (Biochemistry), Vanesa Aguirre (Biochemistry), Carmen Monreal (Chemistry+Biochemistry) and Marian Piñero (Chemistry+Biochemistry). The Gorria team proposed a polymer capable of eliminating excess tannins from wine to increase its quality.

"The aim of this Diploma is to reproduce an approach to what entrepreneurs who initiate a start-up experience, obviously in a less prolonged way. It is important that there are initiatives that bring knowledge, science, to the market through start-ups," says Fernando Baztán, a member of CEIN.
