The 4th edition of the "Cienceando" camps, promoted by the Science Museum of the University of Navarra, has brought together 265 children from all over Navarra between 3 and 12 years of age.

The chemistry camps kicked off the last two weeks of June and participants were able to do many activities inspired by movies: Chicken run - analysis of shell composition and egg membrane properties; Harry Potter - magic potions, dry ice, study of sublimation and gas behavior; Wall-e: making electrical circuits; Up: balloon experiments; Star Wars: fluorescence, phosphorescence and chemiluminescence experiments; Ratatouille: chemistry in the kitchen, why popcorn explodes, homemade ice cream, and spherifications.

The nature camps have been held outdoors throughout the month of August and the activities have been very varied: from analyzing water quality, turbidity and pH in the Sadar River, as well as viewing with a magnifying glass of the species found in the river; bird watching, nest boxes and making wings with recycled materials; use of maps and magnifying glasses to perform the gymkhana, making crystals with salt, land art, among many others.

Ana Sánchez Alcázar, camp instructor and 5th year student of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Navarra, has highlighted the importance of these activities to bring science closer to the new generations. "During the "Cienceando" camps, the children become real explorers and scientists. Through games and crafts, they learn to use laboratory materials, and above all, they stimulate their curiosity about the environment around them, learning to respect and care for the environment".

The urban camps of the Science Museum of the University of Navarra are designed as a fun way to spend the summer learning and enjoying science. Its learning program has been designed by teachers of Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Sciences and is taught by undergraduate and doctoral students in Science and in Education and Psychology at the University of Navarra.
