Ignacio López-Goñi, microbiologist at the University, Science in Spanish Prize

The Fundación para el Conocimiento Madri+d awards this prize to the professor for his career in the field of scientific dissemination.

Ignacio López-Goñi, professor of Microbiology at the University of Navarra, has been distinguished with the Science in Spanish Award in the category "recognition of an outstanding career in science communication in Spanish", awarded for the first time by the Fundación para el Conocimiento Madri+d.

The Foundation is an initiative of the Regional Ministry of Science, Universities and Research of the Community of Madrid, whose main objective is to link higher education, science, technology and innovation for the welfare of citizens. In total, prizes were awarded in six different categories.

Ignacio López-Goñi, born in Pamplona in 1962, is Professor of Microbiology at the University of Navarra. Since 2011 he combines his teaching and research work with an intense activity of science dissemination. As director of the Science Museum of the University of Navarra, he promotes outreach activities for all kinds of audiences and in multiple formats, from cinema to lectures and workshops. His blog microBIO is a reference in the communication and dissemination of science and microbiology online, and his Twitter account @microbioblog, with 86,000 followers, is one of the most popular in microbiology in Spanish. López-Goñi has published four popular science books: ¿Funcionan las vacunas?; Microbiota, los microbios de tu organismo; Virus y pandemias; and Preparados para la próxima pandemia: reflexiones desde la ciencia.
