Fundación Caja Navarra provides 1.5 million euros for the Bioma Center of the University of Navarra

They will be used to promote scientific and research culture through the activities of the University's Science Museum, located in the new building.

Fundación Caja Navarra will collaborate with the Bioma Center of the University of Navarra. The Foundation is promoting this project with a contribution of 1.5 million euros that will be used to promote scientific and research culture and education through the activities carried out by the University's Science Museum, which is integrated into the new building.

The Salón de Grados of the University has been the place chosen to strengthen the collaboration between both entities; with the presence of the president of the Caja Navarra Foundation, José Ángel Andrés Gutiérrez; the rector María Iraburu and the president of the Friends Association, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero. Through this agreement, different activities and workshops on environmental education, educational programs for schoolchildren, research activities and scientific dissemination events will be developed, aimed at raising social awareness on environmental issues and promoting vocations for scientific careers and STEM studies. Equality, accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities will also be promoted.  

Rector María Iraburu thanked the Caja Navarra Foundation for its "generosity in collaborating in this strategic project, which is also at the service of the Comunidad Foral, with which the University of Navarra wants to contribute to the promotion of STEM scientific vocations, and to awaken the love for science and nature among the youngest through the educational program of the Science Museum".

For his part, José Ángel Andrés emphasized the importance for Fundación Caja Navarra of generating alliances between leading entities in our community. "It is a strategic issue for our organization. This agreement is also the confirmation of the support of Fundación Caja Navarra to issues such as research, science, knowledge and its dissemination".

After an opening ceremony, the attendees met at the Bioma Center's observation deck, next to the Science Building of the University of Navarra, with Ignacio López Goñi, Director of the Science Museum of the University of Navarra, and Marie-Anne Reynell, Director of Development, who explained further details of the project and the educational plan.

A space for teaching, research and scientific dissemination.

The Bioma Center is a project that combines research, training and environmental and scientific dissemination. The building, which will be built next to the Cima, will house the Science Museum, the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment, spaces for the faculties of the science area and the headquarters of the University's entrepreneurship service, Innovation Factory. The University is finalizing with the different centers and services the final design of the building, which is already at an advanced stage.
