Amaia Alcalde, a 4th year Biology student, has won first place in the 2nd edition of the Scientific Monologue Contest, held in the Science Building of the University of Navarra. Alcalde surprised the audience with the monologue "Bats, viruses and other adorable creatures" in which the young Navarrese explained that bats, despite being carriers of many viruses, do not develop the diseases they cause and also contribute to the control of insect populations.

The second position went to Iñaki Echeverría from Navarra -who was winner of Famelab Spain 2019- with the monologue "La Re-Evolución Granular" in which the Physics PhD student explained some phenomena related to collective behavior. The third prize went to Professor Juana Fernández who with the title "Los pedos de las vacas" explained some aspects about environmental pollution.

Ujué Moreno, professor at the Faculty of Sciences and CIMA researcher; Azucena Díez, psychiatrist at the University Clinic of Navarra; and Maider Triviño, student of the Master in Biomedical Research completed the list of finalists of this second edition of the monologue contest.

This contest, organized by the Science Museum and which brought together about a hundred people, aims to promote communication and popularization of science in a fun and entertaining format.

In this first edition, 6 monologuists, undergraduate, master's and doctoral students, professors, researchers and alumni of the University of Navarra participated. Each participant had a maximum of 10 minutes to present their monologue in an informative tone and accessible to the public.

The jury of the contest was composed of Enrique Cobos, head of communications of the Science Museum of the University of Navarra; Elisa Monserrat, marketing director of the University; and Juan Manuel Menta, student delegate of the Faculty of Sciences and 4th year student of the double degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry. The gala was hosted by the microbiologist and science communicator Pedro Soler, last year's winner of the first edition of this contest.
