The scientific photography exhibition FOTCIENCIA17, which collects the best scientific images of 2019, opens to the public in the Friends Building of the University of Navarra. This exhibition is part of the Science Week activities organized by the Science Museum University of Navarra and will be available until November 19 (Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 1:30 pm).

Visitors will be able to enjoy 49 scientific photographs, selected from among the 448 that were submitted to the 17th edition of FOTCIENCIA. Seahorses, the large compound eyes of mosquitoes or a sustainable barley crop are just some of the subjects portrayed.

Each image is accompanied by a text in which the author explains the scientific interest and a symbol that associates each photograph with one of the Sustainable Development Goals included in the UN Agenda 2030. In addition, as a novelty this year, the texts can also be listened to and downloaded online through the FOTCIENCIA website.

The inauguration of the exhibition was attended by Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Minister of University, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Government of Navarra; José María González de Diego, manager of the Institute of Agrobiotechnology (CSIC-Government of Navarra); Luis Montuenga, dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Navarra; Ignacio López-Goñi, director of the Science Museum of the University of Navarra; and Marta Revuelta, head of activities of the museum.

At the same time, this exhibition has also been inaugurated in the scientific library of the CSIC in Madrid. After passing through Madrid and Pamplona, FOTCIENCIA17 will be loaned free of charge to entities that request it and will travel to halls, museums and cultural, educational and research centers throughout Spain.

FOTCIENCIA is an annual initiative organized by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) / Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Jesús Serra Foundation, which aims to bring science closer to society through photography and microphotography.
