Experiences in the wilderness
Experiences in the wilderness
On the occasion of the "Women and Girls in Science Day"The Science Museum of the University of Navarra organizes a conversation with two biologists from the other side of the world. Specifically, we will connect with Patagonia and Mexico to learn about the daily life of two biologists.
On the one hand, we will meet Monica Paez, from Ecuador. "I was born and raised in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. There I learned a lot about forests and the animals that inhabit them. Then I did my doctorate in the United States where I learned to use genetics to study the evolution of poison dart frogs. After finishing my studies, I returned to Ecuador to continue studying poison dart frogs and endangered harlequins. Now I am in Patagonia, Argentina, discovering a new world of colorful lizards.
And on the other hand, we met Yetlanezi, granddaughter of indigenous Mexicans: "I studied biology because my grandmother taught me from a very young age to take care of nature, to be curious and learn from it. Currently, I am dedicated to traveling through forests and jungles to talk to people who live there, to know what are their main concerns about the environment and their community, and thus together we can generate techniques to help us conserve these spaces.
