On Friday, January 30, the team from the University of Navarra Science Museum visited the exhibition "The Universe of the Invisible: Microphotography: Art and Science"at the Casa de las Ciencias in Logroño, guided by Antonio Guillén, one of its curators.
During the visit, attendees were able to explore the history of microscopy and microscopic photography, as well as different lighting techniques, from their origins to the present day, contemplating the different contributions that some leading figures have made to microscopy throughout history: Hoefnagel, Leeuwenhoek, Hooke, Leidy, Haeckel, Olavide, Simarro, and Cajal. Engravers, painters, illustrators, photographers, and scientists have found a source of inspiration and knowledge in this invisible universe.
The University of Navarra Science Museum has loaned a solar microscope and a trichinoscope for this exhibition, as well as some photographs taken with a scanning electron microscope (skin and scales of a springtail, a tardigrade, and an acanthocephalus). The museum has also loaned an antique box containing microscope slides and glass vials with small animals.
This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of various institutions, such as the National Museum of Natural Sciences, the Cajal Foundation, the Spanish Society of Neurology, the Río Hortega Foundation, the Complutense University of Madrid, the National Microscopy Center, the University of La Rioja, and the University of Navarra.
